In Summary:
Preparation Time: 1 week (7 days) to plan, rehearse, and record the video
Submission Deadline: 2-3 days after the preparation week (optional buffer time for final submissions)
This timeframe allows participants to think creatively, practice confidently, and submit their best work without feeling rushed, keeping the fun and spontaneity of the challenge intact.
Recommended Preparation Time for Round 2 Tasks:
1.Preparation Period:
1.Time to Prepare: 1 Week (7 days)
A one-week preparation period is a good balance, giving kids ample time to brainstorm, practice, and perfect their performances without making it feel overly stressful or drawn out.
1.Task Breakdown:
1.Day 1-2: Topic Selection & Brainstorming
During these first couple of days, kids can think about the task assigned to them, select their characters or topics (for example, choosing an animal for the “Animal Translator” round or a ridiculous product for the “Unusual Product Commercial”). They’ll have time to research if needed (e.g., coming up with a funny twist on a superhero or monster) and let their imaginations run wild.
2.Day 3-4: Script Writing & Planning
Once they have their ideas, kids should start scripting their performance. While it may be an improvised or spontaneous task, a little planning (like a quick outline or key points) can help organize their thoughts and ensure they hit all the necessary points. For example, in the “Misheard Song Lyrics” challenge, they should plan out the song’s fake lyrics and how they will explain them.
- Day 5-6: Practice and Rehearsal
This is when they should rehearse their performance, ideally in front of a family member or mirror. Kids can tweak their delivery, try out different expressions, and practice speaking clearly and confidently. They can also work on adding fun or exaggerated gestures to keep the performance engaging. - Day 7: Recording the Final Video
The last day can be reserved for recording the final video. This will give them time to set up, make sure the lighting and sound are good, and record the video a few times if necessary. It’s a good idea for them to record a couple of takes so they can pick the best one.
Optional Flexibility:
- Video Submission Deadline: Ideally, the submission deadline for Round 2 should be at least 2-3 days after the final preparation day (to give them time to troubleshoot or adjust their submission if needed). For example, if the preparation time ends on Day 7, you could give an additional 2-3 days (i.e., a 9 or 10-day window from the start of preparation to submission).
Key Considerations for Preparation Time:
1.Age and Skill Level:
Kids between 9 and 15 years old may vary in how quickly they can prepare. A week gives them enough time to think about their ideas without feeling rushed. Since these tasks are creative and fun, it’s more about engaging their imagination and building confidence, rather than memorizing a speech.
1.Support at Home:
Consider whether kids might need help with certain tasks. If some children have more support from parents or teachers than others, it could be helpful to give them a full week to level the playing field. You can even suggest that kids do a “dress rehearsal” in front of their family members to make it feel like a performance!
- Rehearsals:
Encouraging kids to rehearse with others (like family members or friends) can add to the fun and may also boost their confidence. You can suggest that they try recording a practice take and get feedback from family members to refine their performances.
- Submission Guidelines:
Remind kids to check the technical details (video format, length, quality) before submitting to avoid last-minute confusion. A short checklist for submitting can help guide them through the process.
